Condition
The cover opens to reveal a fitted lining, with all its original tools present. This lining lifts out to reveal additional storage and the musical automaton. The automaton takes a wind, but does not play music; it is in need of repair. The case is in overall attractive, stable condition. There is a mirror on the inside of the lid which is loose and needs to be glued back in place; there are small losses to the silvering of the mirror. The velvet lining is decorated with metallic embroidery, some of which is lost. The liner is slightly warped and doesn't fit perfectly flush with the case, but can still be removed and replaced easily. Includes a winding key and case key. The lock for the case is in working order but the lid does not fit perfectly flush to the case when closed/locked. The tools are in generally good condition. The larger pair of scissors, with mother of pearl handle, do not completely close, and there is some oxidation to the blades. The thimble is decorated with two gold bands; one of these is loose. Condition reports are available upon request. All lots are sold “as is,” in the condition they are in at the time of the auction. The physical condition of lots can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration. Prospective buyers are strongly advised to inspect a lot personally or through a knowledgeable representative prior to bidding. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Prospective buyers must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction, and it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that they have requested, received and considered any condition report.
